Meet our Faculty

 

  • Ms. Laurin Boadt

    Principal

    An experienced teacher and principal, Ms. Boadt also served as the principal of the Academy of our Lady and of St. Bernard School. She holds a California Standard Elementary Life teaching credential and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Private School Administration.

    Through teacher preparation days and staff meetings, Ms. Boadt is instrumental in planning school goals for the year. She is available for meetings with parents and students after school, and is happy to meet parents by appointment at other times.

    In her spare time Ms. Boadt enjoys reading (especially mystery books), listening to music, and rooting for the Dodgers.

  • Mrs. Kim Finerty

    Preschool Director

    Mrs. Kim Finerty has worked in the early childhood education field since 1993, when she started as a preschool aide. Her work since then has mainly been with Lutheran schools.

    Mrs. Finerty earned basic and advanced core certificates in early childhood development at UCLA in 2000 (plus many more administration units) and was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2008 through LAUP. She taught at several pre-schools in the local area before joining the staff at Good Shepherd in 2008.

    Mrs. Finerty has been married for 17 years to her high school sweetheart and has one eight year-old child.

    She says: "This has been such an amazing place to get to teach, direct and be a part of the Good Shepherd family! It is such an honor to not only teach basic fundamentals but to introduce these precious one's to God's love."


  • Ms. Jacky Hilliard

    Preschool Teacher

    Ms. Jacqueline Hilliard is a specialist in caring for two and three year-olds. She says, "Children this age are such a challenge. I enjoy working with them because they are so teachable and lovable. It amazes me how much they learn and retain on a daily basis. It has truly been a blessing from God to work with these children and plant seeds of learning, sharing and reading the word of God."

    Ms. Hilliard earned her B.A. in Early Childhood Development in 1978 from Immaculate Heart College, Hollywood. She has a total of 22 years experience in the field, of which 10 were spent as the director of the Sycamore Park Early Education Center in Los Angeles. She worked at Good Shepherd for three years.


  • Ms. Sylvia Durand

    Preschool Teacher

    Ms. Sylvia Durand was born in Indonesia and came with her family to the United States at the age of 10.

    Ms. Durand has taught preschool for ten years, mainly working with four and five year-olds. She likes teaching children in this age group because of how fast they learn and grow. Ms. Durand says it's a blessing to teach her children the word of God through attending chapel and reading bible stories aloud to them.

    After attended Glendale Community College, Ms. Durand worked at Zion Lutheran in Glendale for eight years, a preschool in Woodland Hills for one year, and is in her second year at Good Shepherd.

    In her spare time, she listens to Hawaiian music and hula dances. She hopes to live in Hawaii someday.


  • Mrs. Diana Springfield

    Kindergarten

    Mrs. Springfield graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a BS in literature in 1999. In 2000 she earned a MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) from Occidental College. She taught in the Glendale Unified School District for eleven years, during which she taught straight and split classes in grades 2-6. She values effort and honesty in students, and tries to instill them with confidence and a sense of responsibility. She likes to be silly and play, too, and often gives her kids goofy nicknames. In return they sometimes refer to her as the evil queen from Snow White. They form lasting relationships, and often keep in touch with Mrs. Springfield throughout middle school, high school, and beyond.


  • Mrs. Judylynn Pelling

    1st and 2nd Grades

    Mrs. Judylynn Pelling has a life-time credential in elementary education (K – 8th grade) and has taught in both private and public schools. She also has a masters degree in theatre arts. Mrs. Pelling’s students enjoy reading interesting stories with a phonics base, as well as spelling and story writing. Math is hands-on, as are science and social studies. Physical education, music, art and Christian studies round out a full curriculum.


  • Ms. Anacleta Soriano

    3rd & 4rd Grades

    Ms. Anacleta Soriano's passion is teaching and children are her joy. She believes that a supportive home and a caring school environment are vital partners for a successful teaching-learning experience. In addition to lengthy teaching experience at various grade levels, Ms. Soriano’s experience includes being a trainer of other teachers in teaching methods, a judge of graduating teaching students, and a textbook evaluator. Her many years of experience have earned her the status of Master Teacher.

    Ms. Soriano graduated from the Central Luzon State University with
    a BA degree in education.


  • Ms. Stephanie Frizzell

    5th & 6th Grades

    Ms. Frizzell attended the University of North Texas in Dallas for two years before transferring, with a scholarship, to Adelphi University in New York. She graduated at the top of her class (magna cum laude) with a double major in English Literature and Fine Arts. Her Fine Arts studies include drama, dance, art appreciation, and music theory. She received her Bachelor's degree in 1997.

    Ms. Frizzell moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and began teaching for East LA College while mentoring East L.A. youth through the works of Shakespeare. Sixteen-week workshops were held throughout the Montebello and Bell Gardens School Districts to provide a better grasp on the various literary works of Shakespeare through modern language. The workshops were held for grades 5-8, complete with costumes, stage crew, and final performance. Upon the culmination of this program, Ms. Frizzell then took a teaching position with MUISD as a 6th-8th grade teacher, as well as implementing the choir after- school program for Montebello Intermediate School.

    Ms. Frizzell started working for Good Shepherd in 2007. Upon enrolling her then three-year old into the preschool, she came across an opening for the 5th and 6th grade teaching position. She was happy to find a nurturing, close-knit environment that enabled her to work so closely with her daughter and provide a solid, advanced foundation for our 5th and 6th graders.


  • Reverend Ernest H. King

    The Reverend Ernest H. King very much enjoys the children at Good Shepherd. He plans and celebrates Chapel services each Wednesday morning.
